The Blues duo could end up becoming strike partners at a fellow European challenger
Chelsea have seen two forward players targeted by a Premier League rival as the Blues consider a clear-out in the striking position this summer.
Liam Rosenior’s side have hit a bump in the road in recent weeks and a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge for the head coach has given way to poor home form in the league and a humiliating 8-2 humiliation on aggregate against PSG in the Champions League last 16.
The west London outfit remain well within the race for the top five and Champions League football next season but all the more focus will now be placed on reaching that particular goal and then improving the squad in the summer.
Newcastle target double Chelsea striker raid
According to reports by TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are targeting Chelsea duo Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson as they look to revamp their attacking options this summer. The Toon have seen big-money signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa flatter to deceive and might look to the Stamford Bridge pair as the answer to their problems.
Delap and Jackson cost Chelsea £62million between them but neither striker is guaranteed a future with the Blues. Jackson is currently out on loan at Bayern Munich and is likely to see his future become uncertain once again this summer if the Bavarian giants do not trigger their permanent buy option, while Delap has scored just one Premier League goal since moving from Ipswich Town and has already earnt criticism from fans after taking the Blues ‘cursed’ No.9 shirt and failing to settle into his new surroundings. Newcastle held strong interest in the 23-year-old before his move to west London.
Reporting states that a ‘raid is accelerating’ for the pair, in whom Newcastle are showing ‘strong interest’ – but they intend only to sign one of them, viewing the two strikers as ‘alternative options’ as they look to bring in forward players this summer window.
Both Delap and Jackson might ultimately be moved out of Stamford Bridge this summer if new forward options are brought in, with Newcastle emerging as an early possible destination for at least one of the pair.
