Former Chiefs WR Gets Brutally Honest About His Time in Kansas City

Hollywood Brown kept it real when discussing his stint with the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are retooling their roster this offseason after they endured a sorely disappointing 2025 campaign. Much of their success in 2026 will depend on how Patrick Mahomes looks when he eventually returns from a torn ACL and LCL, but before that happens, the front office has to ensure he has the best possible roster around him once he returns.

Bringing new faces to town is important, but the team also has to make some tough decisions on its own crop of free agents. Earlier this week, that resulted in wide receiver Hollywood Brown bolting for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, and after he put pen to paper, he pulled back the curtain on his two-year stint with the Chiefs.

Hollywood Brown Dishes on Chiefs Stint

Over the first five seasons of his career, spent with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals, Brown developed a reputation for being a big-play threat, thanks in large part to his incredible speed. When he first signed with the Chiefs in 2024, the expectation was that Brown would be a replacement of sorts for Tyreek Hill, as the offense lacked a real speed threat in the wake of his departure.

Instead, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury during the preseason in 2024 that forced him to miss virtually the entire campaign. He re-signed with Kansas City last offseason, though, and he quickly found himself taking on a big role on offense, thanks to Xavier Worthy’s injury woes and Rashee Rice’s off-field issues. When all was said and done, though, Brown’s numbers (49 REC, 587 YDS, 5 TD) left a lot to be desired.

Simply put, Brown never seemed to find his footing with the Chiefs, and it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him depart in free agency. While the 2025 campaign in particular didn’t go Kansas City’s way, Brown had nothing but nice things to say about his now former team, as he credited both the players and the coaching staff for coming together and powering through the disappointing season.

“In this league, the margin for error is so small,” Brown said on “Speakeasy.” “I feel like the group of guys and the staff we had with coach Reid, I wouldn’t be able to handle that adversity anywhere else … It wasn’t the season we wanted to have, but it was a season that we all learned from.”

How Will Chiefs Replace Hollywood Brown?

With Brown gone, the Chiefs have lost their most reliable wide receiver from their 2025 team. However, the team believes both Worthy and Rice can get back on track in 2026. When Rice has been on the field, he has shown the potential to be one of the top wide receivers in the league, and Worthy is the sort of speed threat that Kansas City will likely turn to more now that Brown is gone.

K.C. also re-signed Tyquan Thornton in free agency, adding another speedy playmaker to its offense. However, even with all of these guys last year, the offense struggled, so the front office likely has more work to do in this department before the 2026 campaign rolls around. As a result, it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise to see the Chiefs add another developmental prospect at the wide receiver position once the 2026 NFL Draft rolls around.
