Cowboys Legend Daryl Johnston Nearly Goes Off on Jamie Foxx After Backstage Roast

Joe Torry recalls a tense 2003 confrontation in which Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston nearly fought comedian Jamie Foxx after disrespectful jokes at Emmitt Smith’s roast.

The incident highlighted the clash between professional comedy and elite NFL toughness when personal boundaries were crossed backstage.

Daryl Johnston confronts Jamie Foxx over backstage comedy roast disrespect

The 2003 Roast of Emmitt Smith turned tense after Jamie Foxx targeted Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston. Foxx mocked the player during a long speech, causing the atmosphere to turn cold quickly.

“Moose was ready to go. He did not like the way Jamie was talking about him or his family,” comedian Joe Torrysaid. The tension continued backstage immediately after the set ended.

“His wife was crying because Jamie was going so hard. That is when it became real for Daryl,” Torry added. Witnesses observed a heated exchange requiring close security monitoring.

Johnston, who played 11 NFL seasons and earned three Super Bowl rings, found the personal attacks unacceptable. Foxx, a dominant comedian, famously targeted other athletes during that same event, pushing boundaries.

This incident shows that NFL players, often accustomed to immense physical pressure, do not leave their competitiveness on the field. Even comedians can face serious consequences when they push athletes too far.

The confrontation serves as a stark reminder that professional athletes demand respect. A simple comedy roast can quickly turn into a serious altercation when personal lines are crossed behind the scenes.
