As the Philadelphia 76ers head into their Saturday night matchup against the Utah Jazz, the veteran center Andre Drummond received some bad news.
On Saturday afternoon, the NBA released an official statement, claiming that Drummond would be fined by the league.
Here’s what the statement says: “Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond has been fined $25,000 for making an objectionable gesture on the playing court, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter of the 76ers’ 139-118 win over the Sacramento Kings on March 19 at Golden 1 Center.”
That’s a tough break for the backup center.

These days, Drummond is playing on a short-term deal.
Ahead of the 2024-2025 NBA season, Drummond inked a two-year deal with the Sixers. Last year, he made $5.0 million guaranteed. Heading into the summer of 2025, Drummond had a player option to decide on.
The 32-year-old picked up the option, which would allow him to earn another $5.0 million. At the end of the 2025-2026 NBA season, Drummond will hit the free agency market as an unrestricted player for the first time since 2024.
For several seasons, Drummond has been playing on short-term deals. After his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Drummond signed a $554,988 contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the buyout market in 2020-2021.
The veteran center joined the Sixers for the first time in 2021-2022 on a one-year, $1.6 million contract. The Sixers traded Drummond to the Brooklyn Nets. When he became a free agent that following summer, Drummond signed a two-season deal with the Chicago Bulls. He earned $6.5 million over two seasons.
Drummond’s biggest contracts happened with the Detroit Pistons. His rookie deal in 2012 was $10.6 million over four seasons. In 2016, he had a max contract kick in. At the time, the full deal was worth $127.1 million. The final $28.7 million salary was voided after he joined the Cavs.

This year, Drummond has changed up his role at times due to injuries in the front court.
He played in 52 games, with 24 of those matchups being starts. Seeing the court for 20.0 minutes per game, Drummond shot 47.6% from the field to average 6.7 points per game. He also came down with 8.7 rebounds per game.
The Sixers will pay a visit to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night. With Joel Embiid out of the mix once again, Drummond’s minutes are likely to stay around the 30-minute range.
