Wizards Announce Trae Young Injury Update Before Thunder Game

The Washington Wizards continue to navigate another difficult season, with injuries to their star players playing a major role in their current situation and steady losing ways.

The Wizards are entering the final weeks of the schedule with a 16-53 record and are enduring a 14-game losing streak, only topped by Indiana's 15-game skid, with the franchise's focus clearly on the long-term future.

Six Wizards are expected to be out at least until Sunday, with two more-Will Riley and Tre Johnson-considered game-time decisions for Saturday. Among those ruled out for the time being are superstars Anthony Davis and Trae Young.

Before the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Wizards provided a significant update regarding Young's latest injury.

The Wizards confirmed that Young re-aggravated his right quadriceps injury during Monday's game against the Golden State Warriors. According to the update, additional imaging also revealed lower back irritation.

"Young reinjured his right quadriceps, sustaining a contusion during the third quarter of the game against Golden State on March 16," the Wizards reported. "Related imaging, due to ongoing back pain, confirmed lower back irritation."

The Wizards made it clear that both issues will be managed cautiously moving forward, without a timeline set for Young's return to the court.

"Both injuries are being treated conservatively and will not require surgery at this time. Further updates will be provided as appropriate."

This injury marks another setback for the 27-year-old, who had just returned to action after previous issues related to his knee earlier in the season.

Young exited the Warriors matchup in the third quarter after a collision while fighting through a screen and did not return.

Through five games with Washington, Young has averaged 15.2 points and 6.2 assists while shooting efficiently from both the field (59.2 FG%) and beyond the arc (42.9%), besting his figures from earlier this year when still with the Hawks (41.5% and 30.5%, respectively).

As expected following the update, the Wizards have ruled Young out for their upcoming matchup against the Thunder on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena.
