Beto broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark with a superb dinked finish and then doubled Everton’s lead mid-way through the second half with an effort that squeezed under Robert Sanchez.

Iliman Ndiaye then put the icing on the cake of a impressive performance from the home side, piling on the misery for Chelsea who have now beaten beaten by Newcastle and twice by Paris Saint-Germain in the last ten days.

Chelsea were handed a big boost before kicking a ball on Merseyside with fellow top-four hopefuls Manchester United and Liverpool both dropping points.

Man United twice lead away at Bournemouth on Friday night before being held to a 2-2 draw and then the Reds were beaten 2-1 by Brighton in the early fixture on Saturday.
