Opinion: Cole Palmer gives Chelsea another issue after Everton defeat

Cole Palmer is inevitably going to be a massive talking point following Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Everton on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder and his Chelsea teammates were utterly outclassed by David Moyes’s side at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It was one of their worst performances of the season, with Palmer easily being one of the most disappointing players on the pitch.

Cole Palmer’s form under Liam Rosenior now an issue

Even before Liam Rosenior’s arrival, Palmer was not having the most productive season.

That was largely because of injury, but when he did did play, he did not look like the Palmer from the last two campaigns.

However, under Rosenior, the 23-year-old has been even more ineffective. If you take away his hat-trick against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, Palmer has done very little.

Against Everton, it was arguably the most ineffective that the Englishman has been this term.

For example, according to Sofascore, Palmer had just one shot the whole game. He also failed to complete a single dribble.

Cleary, Chelsea have many issues. After playing so well for the majority of the season, Robert Sanchez has regressed, making another terrible mistake in goal.

However, one of the best attackers in the world now failing to get shots off may be the biggest. It is very concerning to see how Palmer’s level has dropped so dramatically under Rosenior.

Before the match, Rosenior spoke about Palmer, claiming that the England international would get back to his best soon, but he did not look to be anywhere near it at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Palmer has torn Everton apart, and Chelsea really needed to see him do that on Saturday after Liverpool and Manchester United both dropped points. But it was just not meant to be as this decline under Rosenior continues.

Chelsea’s next Premier League game is against Manchester City, so Palmer and his teammates will really have to step up.
