Steph Curry injury update: Warriors share encouraging timeline for return

ATLANTA – Warriors superstar Steph Curry could return soon as Golden State makes its push to the playoffs.

The Warriors provided an encouraging update about Curry’s health on Saturday afternoon before their game in Atlanta against the Hawks.

In the news release, the Warriors said Curry is making “good progress” and ready to move from individual workouts to team and live action practices.

Curry will be re-evaluated once the Warriors return to the Bay Area after Monday’s game in Dallas. Golden State’s next two games after that are at Chase Center on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets and Friday against the Washington Wizards.

Curry has missed the past 20 games with patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee) and bone bruising, last playing on Jan. 30.

The Warriors (33-37) are 6-14 during that stretch and have lost seven of their last eight games entering play Saturday, falling to the 10th seed and final play-in spot.

They have 12 games left in their regular season counting Saturday against the Hawks and are all but locked into the play-in tournament, where they’ll have to earn a position in the playoffs.

Curry’s condition has improved in the last two weeks, with ESPN reporting that he had a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection into his right knee in order to help with swelling.

The current road trip is the first time Curry has traveled with the Warriors since his injury.

On Wednesday in Boston, he participated in pregame shooting drills for the first time since getting hurt.

He did shooting exercises from both a standstill and off movement, completing his routine several hours before tipoff.

Before his injury, Curry appeared well on his way to another All-NBA season. He is averaging 27.2 points per game and has scored 40 points four times in just 39 starts.

He leads the league with a 93.1 free-throw percentage and in 3-pointers made per game (4.5), although he has not played enough games to qualify for the NBA’s end-of-season leaderboard.
