66-year old NFL Hall of Famer trying to make USA Flag Football team for 2028 Olympics

A curious candidate has thrown his name in the mix for the Team USA flag football roster at the 2028 Olympics.

He's an NFL Hall of Famer, but he's also 66 years old.

It's Darrell Green, the long-time Washington cornerback.

“I’m going to give it my best and I’ll walk away with my head up, either way,” Green said, via Pro Football Talk.

The conversation came up because Team USA is playing teams of NFL stars this weekend in Los Angeles.

Green is actually taking part in a national team trial camp being held in Chula Vista.

“Darrell qualified through our digital combine. He’s later in his career than the other trials participants, but his testing results were impressive,” USA Football senior director Callie Brownson told the Associated Press. “Our coaches and staff felt he deserved a closer look... He’s a rare athlete who has stayed in shape and is ready to compete this week.”

The Olympics are still two years away, so Green would be 68 years old by the time those roll around.

It seems like the longest of longshots when you consider that there's a whole national team already and then a whole host of NFL players trying to state their case for a roster spot, too.

Green is still going after it, too. You have to admire him for that, if nothing else.

And hey, if he's the best man for a spot, why not? It'd make for quite the story.
