Jonathan Kuminga breaks silence on reunion game with Warriors

Kuminga did not entertain his embattled past in the Bay Area, as he is now committed to becoming a key part of the rising Atlanta core.

Jonathan Kuminga couldn't care less about his past with the Golden State Warriors.

Addressing the media right after his first matchup with the Dubs since their breakup from the past NBA trade deadline, Kuminga made it clear that his focus and commitment are now with the Atlanta Hawks.

“Whatever they say, you can take however you want it,” Kuminga said, per Nick Friedell of The Athletic. “But I am not worried about the past, I’m here. I’m very happy where I’m at. I’m doing great. Our goal is to get whatever we want to get. And that comes up to us as a team, and I think that’s just my main focus going forward throughout my whole career, throughout me and my teammates here.

"So whatever is being said, or whatever’s going on, that’s not my problem anymore. I’m into the next chapter with my teammates and we’re trying to build something here.”

Anticipations were high that this might be a revenge game for Kuminga, who endured disputes about lack of playing time, inconsistent role and stagnant growth under Steve Kerr over the past couple of seasons.

Yet in the end, Kuminga had an underwhelming showing in his first Warriors clash. Despite the Hawks' 126-110 blowout win over the undermanned Golden State squad, Kuminga relatively struggled with just two points in 1-of-9 shooting across 22 minutes.

Still, there has been no love lost for Kuminga and the Warriors. He hugged every one of his Dubs teammates and former coaches, including Kerr. The young forward also had some extensive talks with Golden State superstar Stephen Curry.

"Our relationship is very strong and we’re brothers at the end of the day.”
