If things could not get any worse for Chelsea, Saturday night saw Liam Rosenior’s future as manager plunge into more doubt thanks to a hammering at Everton, and Alan Shearer criticised two players.
Chelsea came into the game in disarray. An 8-2 hammering on aggregate to PSG has coincided with long-term injuries to Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah. Even off the pitch, Chelsea were handed a big fine.
Nothing is going right for Chelsea at the moment, and Liam Rosenior is taking the heat. The Blues boss will have hoped for a better result on Saturday night then, as Chelsea travelled to the Hill Dickinson.

But it was not to be. A 3-0 hammering by David Moyes’ side leaves Chelsea only two points above the Toffees in sixth, and Alan Shearer was damning in his analysis on Match of the Day following the match.
Alan Shearer says two Chelsea players endured a ‘terrible’ night
Robert Sanchez did little to quell the discontent around his performances, arguably at fault for two of Everton’s three goals and certainly, the man to blame for one of them. A desperately dismal performance.

But on Match of the Day, Shearer said Everton star Beto gave Chelsea centre-backs Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana a “terrible” evening as the duo failed to get to grips. Beto scored two of Everton’s three.
“Forget about systems or anything like that, there was only one team that wanted to win that game today and that was Everton. From start to finish, with their attitude, their application, their organisation.
“Everything about Everton was so impressive. They went after Chelsea. Beto gave the two centre-backs a ‘terrible’ evening in terms of that, pressing, being aggressive, being horrible to play against,” he said.
More signs that Chelsea’s defence needs serious surgery
Ironically, Chalobah didn’t need to go under the knife after picking up an ankle injury against PSG, but the England international claims he is lucky his ankle wasn’t broken. Yet, Chelsea’s defence needs surgery.
Should Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior? Or are the players to blame?🤔

Fans, pundits and the data all say that Chelsea need better, more-experienced options in the middle of the defence. Ever since Thiago Silva left the club in 2024, Chelsea have failed to replace the Brazilian.
Rosenior might not be given the chance to take Chelsea into the summer window if things continue in the way they are. But if he does, you can predict his first move will be to sign an experienced central defender.
The latest name to be linked with Chelsea is Mario Gila, but plenty of others, including Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano, have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea need a whole lot better.
