With the NBA regular season racing to a finish, the Golden State Warriors are holding out hope for some good news concerningStephen Curry.

Curry, 38, has battled an injury-loaded season. When on the court, the two-time league MVP has looked every bit of an elite player. Even with Golden State missingJimmy Butler for the rest of the season, there is hope among the Warriors faithful that their superstar point guard’s electric play alone can at least drag the team into the postseason, even if it means having to play multiple play-in games first.

There has been plenty of discourse regarding Curry’s future with the franchise and whether there is even a slim possibility he’ll explore his options moving forward. Warriors fans can, however, sleep a lot better if Curry can soon return to the court healthy and piece together some promise on an otherwise frustrating season.

Major Stephen Curry Update to Be Learned Today

Curry has battled a nagging knee issue since the end of January, keeping him out of the last 21 games and counting. The Warriors have already announced their superstar guard will miss tomorrow night’s contest against the Dallas Mavericks. Golden State has gone just 6-15 without Curry in the lineup, the latest loss coming last night in a 15-point drubbing at the hands of the surging Atlanta Hawks.

On a higher note, head coachSteve Kerr commented Saturday that Sunday will be a large determiner on where Curry is in his rehab process. The 12-time All-Star will scrimmage Sunday morning with the team in Atlanta, marking a checkpoint in making his way back healthy to the court.

“Tomorrow is probably a big day,” Kerr told ESPN on Saturday. “We’ll know more at that point.”

The Warriors are hopeful they’ll receive an encouraging update today. Although Curry will miss Monday’s game in Dallas, Golden State’s following two games are against teams well below .500. If Curry gets cleared to return before Wednesday, he’ll get a couple of games — one against the Brooklyn Nets, the other against the Washington Wizards — to build some runway before his team takes on the Denver Nuggets in the Mile High City.

Should the Warriors Want to Rush Him Back?

As much discussion there has been about Curry’s injury timeline, many have debated whether the Warriors should even aim to return the future Hall of Famer to the court to finish out what already feels like a lost season.

There’s two sides to this: one is that Curry is an aging player that ought to be rested so he is able to put in a healthy full season next year; the other side is that the Warriors are still hanging onto a play-in spot by a thread and need Curry back as soon as possible to salvage a close-to-sinking ship.

There is also Curry himself. As fans have come to discover his competitive nature all too well, there is little reason to believe the former unanimous MVP wants to throw in the towel on the season. As a player who has won multiple titles and countless playoff games, Curry will always believe his team has a puncher’s chance if he is at his best on the court.

If and when Curry does return, he’ll be going to war without a dependable second-option. Butler’s season ended a while ago when he sustained an ACL tear. The load on Curry will be enormous as he tries to strike his team’s ticket into the spring tournament.

For now, it appears the Warriors are looking to gear Curry up before the third week of April. With the clock ticking on the regular season, things will have to move rapidly for Golden State if it intends to make anything productive out of this season.
