Bears and Browns named possible landing spots for $60 million Lions free agent

The Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears are two teams that could still add to their starting offensive lines this offseason.

The Browns have done a good job filling their group after all five of last year's starters hit the free-agent market this offseason, creating a difficult situation.

Left tackle is a position that still needs to be addressed, though. The Browns simply can't rely on Dawand Jones, who posted Pro Football Focus grades of 47.1 in pass-blocking and 30.6 in run-blocking while committing a whopping five penalties despite playing just 143 offesnive snaps.

The Bears entered the offseason with a question mark at left tackle thanks to the injury to Ozzy Trapilo, who suffered a torn patellar tendon in the playoffs.

Chicago is slated to have a competition at the position between Braxton Jones, Theo Benedet and Jedrick Wills, but Benedet and Jones have both left a lot to be desired during their careers and Wills hasn't played a snap in the NFL since 2024 and has also been a major disappointing in his career.

Bears, Browns should target Taylor Decker

In an article naming the top landing spots for some of the best remaining free agents, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox pegged the Bears and Browns as possible destinations for Detroit Lions free-agent left tackle Taylor Decker.

"The Bears also employ former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their head coach," Knox wrote. "While the rebuilding Cleveland Browns would be less enticing to Decker, they also have major question marks at left tackle."

Decker was set to enter the second year of his $60 million contract, but the Lions were looking for him to take a pay cut. After failing to come to an agreement, Decker requested his release and the Lions obliged.

While Decker saw a bit of a drop-off in performance last season, he was also battling a shoulder injury all year long, limiting him to 14 games.

Even still, Decker gave up two sacks and 33 pressures while posting PFF grades of 69.5 in pass-blocking and 62.1 in run-blocking. Those numbers were better all around than anyone the Bears or Browns could start at left tackle.

We'd consider the Bears a more likely landing spot, and not just because of Decker's connection to Chicago head coach Ben Johnson.

The Bears clearly give Decker a better chance to win, and there's a chance he might want to stick it to the Lions due to his frustration with the way contract talks went.
