Jaffer Murphy has put himself in NFL Draft contention
The Philadelphia Eagles and a number of other NFL teams were on hand to see a draft prospect perform at an elite level - including running a 4.48 yard dash at a position in which you would not think.
UTSA kicker Jaffer Murphy has proven to be one of the quickest players in the entire class after running his 40 at a time that a wide receiver would be proud of, before pulling off a sensational kicking performance.

A number of NFL teams were in Texas to see Murphy nail 12 of his 13 field goal attempts, with one coming from a staggering 70 yards. That kick would have broken NFL records, after Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little broke it with a 68-yard attempt this past season. His performance has seen him come from nowhere to be a legitimate draftable player.

The Eagles were one team confirmed to be in attendance at UTSA's Pro Day this week, alongside a number of other teams.
Since making the kicks, Murphy has reportedly spoken with over 12 teams that may look to draft him next month.

Teams instead regularly hope to land kickers as undrafted free agents, where some of the league's best kickers have been found over the years.
In recent times, kickers drafted with high draft picks have struggled in the league and been cut from their teams.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers famously shocked the league in 2016 when they used a second round pick on Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo. He lasted just one year with the team.

In 2023, the San Francisco 49ers spent a third-round draft pick on Jake Moody from Michigan, where he'd been one of the most accurate kickers in college football.

But he lasted just two seasons before being cut, in what was seen as another huge draft bust. Murphy still may not be drafted, but he's put himself in a great position to be considered in the later rounds.
His athletic abilities could be used on onside kicks, as well as on the kick-off team where he could act as a tackler on the team - potentially even being used on the punt team.
