Defensa Central: Aston Villa join Milan and Chelsea in race for Lazio star – €30m bid ready

AC Milan face Premier League competition if they are to complete the signing of Mario Gila from Lazio, a report claims.

Milan have been linked with a move for Gila for months now, hoping to leverage the fact that sporting director Igli Tare knows the Spaniard well having brought him to Lazio from Real Madrid. The performance he put in against the Rossoneri last weekend was further proof of his capabilities too.

Competition for Gila

However, Defensa Central (via MilanNews) are reporting that Gila has ended up in the sights of Aston Villa. Not only that, but the Premier League side are ready to invest around €30m to buy him, with 50% of the sum destined for Real Madrid because of a resale clause.

The central defender joined Lazio in July 2022 after coming through the youth teams of Real Madrid and Espanyol. He has a contract with the Biancoceleste until 2027, so his possible sale at the end of the season would be the only way to cash in.

His market value is around €30m so Villa’s bid could be around the right ballpark. However, the source goes on to mention that Milan and Inter are both keen on signing the 25-year-old, while Chelsea are monitoring things too.

This season, Gila has made 29 appearances for a total of 2,474 minutes played. The capital club’s objective remains clear: to collect between €30-35m, and they may potentially prefer selling abroad to not strengthen a ‘rival’ domestically.
