Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Enzo Fernandez over a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge, but no agreement has been reached as yet and the Argentine could still leave the club in the summer transfer window.
There have been a number of rumours around Fernandez's future, with the midfielder doing little to quell the rumours when asked whether he would still be in west London next season.
Speaking after Chelsea were unceremoniously dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by an 8-2 aggregate scoreline against Paris Saint-Germain, Fernandez said: "I don't know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There's the World Cup and then we'll see."

GIVEMESPORT understands that if Fernandez were to leave Chelsea then Real Madrid would be the dream destination, with GMS senior correspondent Ben Jacobs writing in his newsletter this week: "Chelsea are not really open to an Enzo Fernandez sale, and the only way that that would change is if a crazy, astronomical offer was made, and there's just not many clubs in world football that would be prepared to do that.
"I'm not aware at this stage of Real going to Chelsea or Enzo Fernandez and saying they're in the race, but what I can tell you is if Real Madrid were to advance any interest, then that's the club that Enzo Fernandez, I believe, from speaking to sources, would be quite interested in joining, but he remains committed to Chelsea, he's not agitating for a move at this stage."
Fernandez is currently tied down to a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, with the Argentine contracted to the club until 2032. But that has not stopped the Blues opening talks over an extension to ward off any interested parties and reaffirm his commitment to the cause in west London.
Enzo Fernandez Contract Length Gives Chelsea Control

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: "The message I'm receiving is that Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea had conversations on the contract to discuss fresh terms for Enzo Fernandez. At the moment they couldn't reach an agreement over a new contract, so at the moment it's not agreed and eventually, if the situation remains like this with no agreement between now and the summer transfer window, Enzo Fernandez could consider new proposals in the summer transfer window.
"Chelsea are still in total control of the situation and still consider Enzo Fernandez as a very important player, leader, winner."
