Future of Hall of Fame wide receiver open to joining Vikings in 2026

The Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing season in 2025. The team had inconsistent quarterback play and as a result, failed to keep up in the tough NFC North.

After an up-and-down season, the Vikings brought in some insurance for former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy in veteran Kyler Murray. Murray missed most of the 2025 season with injury, and the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals decided to move on.

Now, Murray will try to rebuild his career in Minnesota. Recently, one of his former teammates expressed a desire to reunite with Murray in the purple and gold for the 2026 season.

Future Hall of Fame wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was asked by TMZ Sports if he'd be interested in playing for the Vikings.

"I would always embrace that journey with him," Hopkins said. "If Kyler need me, he know I'm there. If the Vikings need me, they know I'll be there."

Hopkins spent the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens and caught 22 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns. The veteran isn't the elite, No. 1 option he once was, but he can still be a quality receiver, especially with a quarterback he's familiar with.

Hopkins and Murray played together in Arizona from 2020 to 2022. During that time, Hopkins caught 221 passes for 2,696 yards and 17 touchdowns and earned one Pro Bowl selection.

Murray's best career seasons came with Hopkins on his team, so it's safe to assume the two have good chemistry. The Vikings already have Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at receiver, but there's a clear need for a WR3.

Former WR3 Jalen Nailor left the Vikings for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency this offseason. Without Nailor, the Vikings would have to turn to Tai Felton or Myles Price, so signing Hopkins seems like a pretty good option.

With Jefferson, Addison, and Hopkins, the Vikings would have one of the best receivers in the league, an exciting, young WR2, and a reliable veteran. Whether Murray or McCarthy is the quarterback, they would have plenty of options to get the ball to.
