Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs made his first public appearance since his release from the organization. He played at the Fanatics Football Classic, headlined by Tom Brady.

The event was a star-studded affair. Several NFL grades and current NFL players were at the event. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley were all in attendance.

The event also featured former NFL players. Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was scheduled to take part in the event. However, he suffered a hamstring injury early in the tournament and was unable to continue.

Brady was on the founders FCC team. That team featured Gronkowski, Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith, Diggs, and Von Miller. In an interesting twist, Diggs was the recipient of Brady’s first touchdown pass. The past was part of Brady’s first competitive football appearance in a little over 1,000 days.

This was certainly something that created a bit of a buzz. That led people to wonder what it would be like if Brady and Diggs ever teamed up. The fact that they were also former Patriots generated some buzz as well. Regardless, the past and catch were a thing of beauty.

Updates On Former New England Patriots Star

It’s been quiet for Diggs ever since his release from the Patriots. He made a statement on his Instagram story shortly after the release. However, he has not posted anything on social media since then. NFL analysts have theorized about the wide receiver coming back to the Patriots. Earlier this week, the hypothetical was raised that Diggs could come back to New England should things not work out in their pursuit of A.J Brown.

Diggs was a major part of the Patriots’ offense last season. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He provided a veteran element to the locker room. The playmaker was also able to give the Patriots their first 1,000-yard wide receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019.

Patriots Executive Vice President of player personnel Eliot Wolf didn’t necessarily rule out a Diggs return. His return would give the Patriots a reliable playmaking weapon, and a receiver who’s comfortable with quarterback Drake Maye. Off-the-field issues are the main thing here, and in that way, it could be risky for the Patriots to take a flyer on him.

Connection Excites New England Patriots Fans

With that being said, Diggs looks sharp during the event on Saturday. The connection with Brady certainly made Patriots fans excited and wonder what could have been. It’s clear that the receiver liked his time in New England, and he was a valuable piece of the improbable Super Bowl run that the team went on last season.

For now, the Patriots and Diggs will separate. It will be interesting to see if the wide receiver ends up on a new team, and which one. There is no doubt he still has talent. The wideout can play at a high level, and we saw that last year, even as he came back from an ACL injury. There is no doubt that he still can play, even at age 33.
