Masterclass at the Waterfront: David Moyes Hails “Best Day” as Everton Brush Aside Chelsea

Everton delivered a statement performance yesterday, dismantling Chelsea in a 3-0 victory that felt like a turning point for the club at our new home. In a display defined by clinical finishing and relentless work rate, David Moyes’ side moved one step closer to securing a dream return to European football.

The Return of the “Goodison Roar”

While the move to a new stadium always carries the risk of losing a specific atmosphere, Moyes believes the bridge between the past and the future was finally crossed during the win. The atmosphere was electric, fueled by a late kick-off and a team that gave the fans plenty to cheer about from the opening whistle.

“Absolutely the best,” Moyes said when asked if it was the greatest day at the new stadium so far. “Even the arrival, as we know some things can play a part, the late kick-off, maybe had a couple of beers, but the crowd was definitely with it. From minute one I think we gave them something to believe in.”

He added: “The crowd was fantastic tonight. It was more reminiscent of Goodison then any game we’ve had here.”

'Something clicked tonight. For the first time, Hill Dickinson Stadium didn’t just feel like where we play – it felt like home. 🔵💙' pic.twitter.com/5PC8N1CE0w

Garner and Beto Take Center Stage

The victory was anchored by standout individual performances, most notably from James Garner in midfield and a brace from Beto. Garner, in particular, earned high praise for outshining a Chelsea lineup filled with high-priced international stars.

“I might be biased but, for me, he was the best player on the pitch and he’s up against an awful lot of top players from other top countries,” Moyes noted. “Argentina, some England internationals on the pitch. I thought he stood out and worked really, really hard. He’s getting his rewards for the work he’s putting in.”

Up front, Beto’s two goals were the product of what Moyes described as an elite work ethic and a humble personality.

“It’s difficult to explain, sometimes as a manager you come across so many good people who work really hard but this boy is incredibly humble, does his work every day, wants more, he can’t get enough of it. Sometimes the harder you work the more luck you get as well. Whether it was luck today or not he certainly took his goals great.”
