Why Patriots Should Sign This Eight-Time Pro Bowler Instead Of Trading For A.J. Brown

The [New England Patriots](https://nesn.com/new-england-patriots) made a solid move in the first week of NFL free agency by bringing in wide receiver Romeo Doubs from the Green Bay Packers. However, they still need to acquire another receiver to step into the role of the No. 1 option.

New England is waiting to see if the Eagles will trade wide receiver A.J. Brown, but that decision might not come until after June 1. If a trade happens before that date, Philadelphia would incur a $43 million dead cap hit.

The Patriots would be a good fit for Brown, but if they are struggling to make it happen, they should shift their focus and consider signing free-agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill instead.

Hill has been in the NFL for the past 10 years, spending six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and four with the Miami Dolphins. During his career, he has amassed 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns over 145 games. In addition to his impressive stats, he has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times and has won one Super Bowl.

The only concern with Hill at the moment is that he is coming off a season in which he played only four games due to a serious knee injury. His speed is a crucial aspect of his game; if the knee injury affects his speed, there’s a chance he may never regain the same level of play he once had.

Even though Hill has a knee issue, New England should still consider taking a chance on him. The Patriots wouldn’t have to trade anything to land him, and since he is still on the open market, his price is likely going down with each passing day.

The Patriots won’t have to commit to a long-term deal with Hill, and if he works out, that’s fantastic. Yet, if he doesn’t pan out, they won’t have lost anything in the process.
