Eberechi Eze will not join up with the England squad as Arsenal wait to learn the severity of his calf injury.

Eze was ruled out of the Carabao Cup final on Sunday and had to watch from the sidelines at Wembley as Arsenal fell to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.

The 27-year-old was forced off in the second-leg win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last 16 in midweek, but trained in the build-up to the final and it had been hoped that he would be fit to face City.

However, despite Arsenal's attempts to get Eze available, he was left out of the squad and will now not be involved in England duty as Thomas Tuchel’s side play key pre-World Cup friendlies against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley.

Reports suggest that he will be replaced in Tuchel’s expanded 35-man squad by Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes.

"We have to do another scan in six or seven days and wait to see the results," Arteta said after the final, confirming that Eze’s problem was a calf injury.
