The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a new era after replacing Mike Tomlin with Mike McCarthy, following 19 seasons at the helm.
The connection between McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is evident, but Rodgers has not yet decided whether he will continue his playing career or retire. Despite this uncertainty, Rodgers had a successful first season with the team, passing for 3,322 yards, completing 24 touchdown passes, and throwing seven interceptions, which resulted in a completion rate of 65.7%. He also led the team to the postseason; however, they were eliminated in the wild-card round, losing to the Houston Texans 30-6.
Regardless of whether Rodgers stays or leaves, the team must begin preparing for the future. That's why NFL.com's Chad Reuter predicts the Steelers will select Miami Hurricanes (Canes Championship Gear) quarterback Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Beck had a successful career, first with the Georgia Bulldogs and then at Miami. He accumulated a total of 11,725 passing yards, 88 touchdowns and 32 interceptions throughout his career. After the 2024 season, he left Georgia and became one of the highest-paid college players, boasting a NIL valuation of $1.6 million. During his single season in Coral Gables, he led the team to its first national championship appearance since the 2002 season.
Beck's fit in Pittsburgh would revolve around stability and structure at the quarterback position. Unlike Rodgers, who thrives on improvisation and off-schedule plays, Beck operates best within the rhythm of an offense, delivering accurate throws and managing the game efficiently. That contrast could help the Steelers transition toward a more balanced and controlled offensive identity under McCarthy.
If Rodgers returns, Beck would have the opportunity to develop without pressure, learning the nuances of the system while adjusting to the speed of the NFL. That kind of setup could be ideal for maximizing his strengths, allowing him to refine his decision-making and consistency before taking on a starting role.
Long term, Beck offers the Steelers a potential answer to their looming quarterback question. If he develops as expected, he could provide the franchise with a steady presence under center, one capable of sustaining success while bringing a different, more methodical approach to the offense.
