Liam Rosenior look away now as Opta predict Chelsea's chances of finishing in the top five

Numerous reports over the weekend have suggested that Liam Rosenior will remain in the Chelsea job if he can secure Champions League football next season – and Opta have rated their chances.

Chelsea have been abysmal in recent weeks. One win in six Premier League games, followed by an 8-2 demolition at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Rosenior’s job is on the line.

On Saturday night, arguably Rosenior’s worst defeat of the lot. A 3-0 hammering by Everton came as Chelsea’s makeshift defence struggled. Alan Shearer said Wesley Fofana and Jorrel Hato were “terrible”.

Robert Sanchez made more mistakes, even if Glenn Hoddle sympathised with the Spaniard. But given the run of form, some had started to question Rosenior’s future. Fabrizio Romano said there are no plans.

What position would Chelsea be in NOW if Enzo Maresca was still in charge?

Be honest!

But Romano made the point that Chelsea’s aim is to qualify for the Champions League and failure to do so would put the microscope firmly on Rosenior. The Blues boss won’t appreciate Opta’s predictions.

Opta predict Chelsea’s chances of Champions League finish

Opta have made their latest Premier League predictions following the end of another weekend in the Premier League. The only silver lining for Chelsea was that Liverpool were beaten by Brighton, 2-1.

Chelsea remain in sixth, a point behind Arne Slot’s side. But Chelsea’s run of games is tough, facing both Manchester clubs in their next two league games before a trip to Brighton, the fixture Liverpool lost.

Then, a huge clash against Liverpool at Anfield comes on May 9 after Chelsea host Forest. With that run of games in mind, Opta believe Chelsea only have a 10% chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Indeed, Chelsea are projected to win just 58 points, only 10 more than they currently have. Liverpool are expected to finish on 60, while Villa are set to go and secure 65 and then Man United, on 66.

What do Chelsea need to fix between now and the summer?

For the first time as Chelsea manager, Rosenior now gets a bit of time. The majority of his Chelsea squad will be busy representing their countries, but for the manager himself, he gets the chance to breathe.

Should Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior? Or are the players to blame?🤔

To analyse, to watch back some of the defeats and work out what needs to change. But clearly, the Blues boss needs to sort out a defence that is currently lacking Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill.

Three crucial players and for some, arguably Chelsea’s three best defenders. Rosenior needs to work out his best two central defenders and stick with them for the remainder of Chalobah’s ankle injury.

He needs to work out what the best system is for these players and stick to it. Rotation is all well and good but with no European matches left, the sole focus must be finishing in the top five come May.
