Revealed: How many points Arsenal need to win Premier League title

The Premier League title race is heating up

Arsenal Football Newsletter

Arsenal suffered defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, but they remain in control of the Premier League title race.

Prior to Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Wembley Stadium, which ended Arsenal’s hopes of an unprecedented quadruple this season, the Gunners took a massive step towards clinching a first league title in over 20 years.

Hard fought wins over Brighton and Everton coupled with Man City being held to back-to-back draws against relegation-threatened sides in Nottingham Forest and West Ham has allowed Arsenal to open up a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Man City do, though, still have a game in hand over Arsenal, and will welcome the league leaders to the Etihad Stadium on April 19 in what has previously been billed as a title decider.

The convincing manner in which Pep Guardiola’s side won the Carabao Cup final may have landed a huge psychological blow to the Gunners ahead of the aforementioned showdown next month and their Champions League exit could prove beneficial.

That said, the title is no longer in their hands and they will need to be almost perfect in their remaining eight games of the Premier League season to catch Arsenal who have seven left.

How many points do Arsenal need to win Premier League title?

Despite Man City’s Carabao Cup final win, those dropped points against Nottingham Forest and West Ham have left Arsenal in a comfortable position in the title race.

City’s maximum points total is now 85, which means the Gunners require 16 more points from a possible 21 to clinch the title and that works out to be five wins and a draw from their remaining seven matches.

If Arsenal win all of their remaining Premier League fixtures, including beating Man City at the Etihad on April 19, they can be crowned champions with a point away at London rivals West Ham on May 9.

Even if City also win every game but lose to Arsenal, they will still be 12 points behind the Gunners after playing Brentford on May 9, with just three games left to play.

If Man City drop points in any game before that, against Chelsea, Burnley or Everton, and Arsenal keep on winning, then the title will be decided even earlier.

Arsenal face Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on May 2, while Man City are away at Everton.

City will need to lose two games, including one against Arsenal, for the Gunners to be crowned champions in April.
