Ben White has returned to the England fold

Ben White has ended a three-year long hiatus after being called up following a number of injury blows.

Three Lions boss named a ahead of this month's friendly clashes against Uruguay and Japan. But his plans have already been disrupted, withand Jarell Quansah having picked up injuries and the FA have now confirmed their replacements, with White among those to have been called up.

A statement from the FA read: " United's Harvey Barnes and Arsenal's have been added to the England squad.

"The pair replace Arsenal's Eberechi Eze and Bayer Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah who are ruled out of the Three Lions' March internationals through injury. Barnes made his only appearance for the senior team in October 2020 while White has four caps to his name.

"England host Uruguay on Friday (27 March, 7.45pm kick-off) followed by Japan on Tuesday 31 March (7.45pm kick-off) at Wembley Stadium."

White is certainly a surprise inclusion given he has not played for England since 2022. The defender was part of the squad for that year's World Cup in but left the camp early following a reported falling out.

Asked about his long hiatus last year, boss said: "From what I understand the reasons, it wasn't about letting somebody down. He was just telling somebody 'I don't want to let you down and this is the way I feel. I think it's very difficult for me to give you what you need'. So I think it was completely different.

“I can tell you because I was very involved in the moment that that happened and I know how Ben felt and that was for me very, very clear the reason why he made that decision, how he was feeling about it and how he was struggling.

"It was about just facing the situation and saying: 'I cannot handle it now and I am not the best person to represent the country the way I feel right now'. I think not a lot of people would do it. What he did in my opinion was very brave and not a lot of people would have done it. Whatever the outcome is, what I want is Ben to be happy and that he feels fulfilled.”

White, 28, has earned four caps for England throughout his career, his debut coming five years ago in 2021. England boss Tuchel was asked about the prospect of White returning to the fold after he replaced and refused to rule anything out.
