Chelsea striker Liam Delap is increasingly expected to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with reports indicating the club are willing to listen to offers in the region of £40 million amid growing Premier League interest.
The striker only joined CHELSEA in 2025 for around £30 million following an impressive 12-goal Premier League campaign with Ipswich Town. However, his first season in west London has failed to match expectations. Delap has struggled for both fitness and form, managing just a handful of goals and limited minutes across all competitions.
GiveMeSport suggest Chelsea are open to a sale as part of a wider squad reshuffle, with the forward having fallen behind João Pedro in the pecking order.
Newcastle United have emerged as the most serious suitors, identifying Delap as a key attacking target ahead of the summer window. The Magpies are believed to be in the market for a new striker and view the Chelsea forward as a player with untapped potential, despite his difficult campaign.
CHELSEA’s reported £40 million valuation would represent a profit on the fee paid less than a year ago, underlining the club’s willingness to move quickly on from signings who fail to establish themselves.
Further speculation has also linked the Blues with pursuing a replacement striker, raising the possibility that Delap could be used as part of a swap deal in the coming months.
Why Delap must leave
At Ipswich, he was a focal point, playing regularly and developing his game through consistent Premier League exposure. That rhythm has disappeared at Stamford Bridge. Limited minutes, constant competition, and a lack of defined role have stalled his momentum at a crucial stage of his career.
Strikers, especially young ones, rely heavily on confidence and continuity. Delap has had neither. Sitting behind more established options has reduced him to a peripheral figure, and that is reflected in his modest return this season.
A move — particularly to a club like Newcastle where he is wanted — could reignite his trajectory. Regular starts, tactical trust, and a system built around his strengths would offer the platform he enjoyed at Ipswich.
CHELSEA, meanwhile, have shown a ruthless approach to squad building. If a player does not immediately fit, they are moved on. For Delap, waiting for circumstances to change may be a gamble he cannot afford.
