“Overpaid”: NFL Fans Stunned Over Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba Massive Pay Day

One of the main reasons why the Seattle Seahawks offense took its gear to another level this season is because of wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He helped Seattle win a Super Bowl and was also the offensive player of the year in the NFL. Smith-Njigba last season caught 119 passes for 1,793 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns, along with averaging 15.1 yards per reception. He was also targeted 163 times.

Because of his major performance last season, Smith Njigba got a massive payday from Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported, “ESPN Sources: Offensive Player of the Year and Super-Bowl champion Jaxon Smith-Njigba reached agreement with the Seattle Seahawks on a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid WR in NFL history. The deal averages $42.15 million per year, and includes over $120 million guaranteed, both setting records for any wide receiver. The deal was confirmed by@WINSportsGroup.”

This is a massive payday for the Seattle star wide receiver. He was a first-round selection (20th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Ohio State Buckeyes. General manager Jon Schneider locks up his star wide receiver for the long-term.

There are a lot of NFL fans who are stunned about the big contract that Smith-Njigba received on Monday. This is what they had to say on Twitter about the Seattle star wide receiver:

Overpaid 🤡 good luck missing the playoffs now that you don’t have money for anyone decent

This feels like a massive overpay tbh 😅

Yes, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is talented, but making him the highest-paid WR in NFL history this early resets the entire market in a way that could hurt teams long-term. Seattle better be 100% right about this bet.

Usually a mistake. Even having a top 10 paid WR is usually a mistake. Seattle probably one-and-done pic.twitter.com/ebhaqEHTmB

This makes him the highest-paid WR ever… meanwhile some QBs are still capped under $40M. Priorities much? 🤨 pic.twitter.com/vCUgiARyNY

That a Buckeye for ya! We bringing future legends to the league from WR U!

He is only 24 years old. Smith-Njigba is already one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. He will be very good for the next several years. Quarterback Sam Darnold will have his top target once again ready to roll for the 2026 NFL season. Smith-Njigba is also proving that Ohio State wide receivers continue to produce in the NFL.
