Puka Nacua continued his rapid rise to superstardom with a dominant 2025 season, emerging as one of the league's most productive wide receivers. The Los Angeles Rams star finished the year with 129 receptions for 1,715 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.
Nacua led the NFL in catches and ranked second in receiving yards. His production played a central role in Los Angeles' run to the NFC Championship Game, where he consistently delivered in high-leverage situations and solidified his status as a true No. 1 option.
His impressive campaign immediately led to speculation about his long-term future and market value in the offseason. Nacua is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2026, and league projections have pointed toward a deal that would place him among the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. His trajectory and importance to the Rams' offense made an extension a priority.
But it appears the Rams may now have to spend even more than they initially anticipated following big news within the wide receiver market on Monday.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jaxon Smith-Njigba agreed to a four-year, $168.6 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal averages $42.15 million annually and includes over $120 million guaranteed, both setting new records for a wide receiver.
The contract establishes a new benchmark across the league, and presents a direct challenge for the Rams. With Nacua entering a contract year, Los Angeles must now decide whether to match or exceed that figure to secure its top offensive weapon long-term.
A fifth-round pick in 2023, Nacua quickly developed into one of the NFL's most reliable and high-volume targets. He earned his first All-Pro recognition last season and solidified his role as a centerpiece of the Rams' passing attack.
Heading into 2026, expectations remain high. Nacua is projected to continue leading the Rams' offense as Matthew Stafford's top target. Another season like 2025 will improve his market value even further, leaving the Rams with a huge decision to make.
