The Las Vegas Raiders’ offseason has been highlighted by their botched Maxx Crosby-Baltimore Ravens trade in mid-March.
Essentially, the Ravens were prepared to acquire the superstar edge rusher in a trade that would have sent two first-round picks to Las Vegas. However, medical concerns prompted them to squash the deal shortly after ESPN's Adam Schefter originally announced it.
Tom Brady, the Raiders' minority owner, was asked about the unsuccessful deal on Saturday (during the Fanatics flag football event), as well as his role with Las Vegas moving forward.
Impressively, Brady dodged the question about the rescinded trade and directed all his attention to the question about his involvement in the Raiders’ organization.
“You know, I was very fortunate in my career to be around amazing people and mentors like Robert Kraft, as an owner of a team, and now getting to work with Mark Davis in the role that I’m at, and to see kind of a different team shape, the way that things are done and how we’re evolving and growing, and, you know, we certainly have a long ways to go,” Brady said.
“So, you know, it’s always, I think, process over outcomes, and I think we’re all trying — and all of us in our own role that we have, and the role that we have, and whether it’s an ownership role or a personnel department or strength and conditioning and athletic training and obviously players and positions and offense, defense — everyone’s got to come together. Everyone has to work incredibly hard for the people next to them.”
In case it isn’t clear, Brady didn’t acknowledge the Crosby trade blunder in any way, shape, or form, which was a wise move. Brady, like the rest of the Raiders’ organization, is likely disappointed that the deal didn’t go through.
That said, it’s now a thing of the past, making it illogical for him to bring it back to light by expressing his feelings on the topic over the weekend. Although the seven-time Super Bowl champion is no longer playing in the NFL, his high IQ tendencies haven’t disappeared.
