The Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman have not had the best 2026 NFL offseason so far. They have lost some key players and haven’t been able to make any splash moves just yet.

While there are some concerns growing about the Eagles, there is plenty of time to turn the offseason around.

Among the notable departures for Philadelphia are linebacker Nakobe Dean, pass rusher Jaelan Phillips, safety Reed Blankenship, and wide receiver Jahan Dotson. Roseman was able to bring in cornerback Riq Woolen on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million, but that was the only clear impact move.

Keeping that in mind, there are holes that need to be filled. One of them is bringing in another pass rusher after losing out on Phillips in free agency to the Carolina Panthers.

Should Roseman be interested in scouring the NFL free agency market for a veteran pass rusher, there is one name that has been brought up as a target to consider.

Philadelphia Eagles Urged to Pursue Potential $8.9 Million Move

One name that has been brought up for the Eagles is former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. He is fresh off of a nice season with the Dallas Cowboys.

However, there is another name that has been suggested.

Nick Halden of Section 215 has urged Philadelphia to consider signing veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd. He also mentioned that signing Floyd would help the Eagles draft for talent rather than need.

“Signing Floyd should fit well within Philadelphia’s remaining budget and help alleviate pressure put on their upcoming draft class,” Halden wrote.

“Ideally, the Eagles put themselves in a position to select the best player on the board and aren’t under pressure to target specific positions. Floyd helps you do just that, shoring up depth at a position that is clearly in question.”

What Would Leonard Floyd Bring to the Eagles’ Defense?

At 33 years old, Floyd is coming off of a 2025 season with the Atlanta Falcons were he didn’t have much of a role. He played in 15 games, recording 19 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a defended pass.

Those numbers clearly aren’t highly impactful. His two previous seasons, however, were much better with the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills.

In 2024 with the 49ers, Floyd appeared in 17 games and recorded 42 tackles, 8.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a defended pass. Back in 2023, he totaled 32 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a defended pass in 17 games with the Bills.

Floyd is more than capable of getting after the quarterback. That is a major need for Philadelphia. Roseman would be wise to take a look at him.

As for what it would take to sign Floyd in free agency, Spotrac has projected a one-year deal worth just over $8.9 million. That price tag would be worth it for the Eagles to fix up their pass rush.
