No Lakers as two teams named favorites to land LeBron James next season

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors have been mentioned by league executives as LeBron James' most likely destinations for next season.

So far, there is no certainty whether we will see LeBron James back on the court next season, but if he decides to continue his career, the consensus around the NBA is that it will not be in a Los Angeles Lakers jersey.

As Sam Amick of The Athletic wrote on Monday, if the 41-year-old legend chooses to keep playing, the most likely destinations are the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Golden State Warriors.

"As recently as late January, not long after an ESPN report detailed much of the dysfunction in James' relationship with the Lakers organization, the widely held consensus around the league was that there's no way he'd be back in a Lakers jersey," Amick writes. "The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors were, and are, often mentioned by league executives as his most likely destinations."

A return to Cleveland would mark a symbolic homecoming, where he began his legendary NBA career in 2003 and later led the franchise to its first NBA title in 2016.

Meanwhile, a move to Golden State could see him team up with fellow legend Stephen Curry, with whom he has previously expressed a desire to play.

In his 23rd NBA season, LeBron is still highly impactful, averaging 21.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in around 33 minutes per game.
