Three things Liam Rosenior needs to address at Chelsea during international break - opinion

Liam Rosenior recently admitted that the international break has probably come at a good time for Chelsea.

The Blues are currently on a run of four straight defeats after their loss to Everton over the weekend.

The international break will also give Rosenior time to sit down and think about how he can address several of the team’s issues.

Chelsea’s backline

If you are a Chelsea fan, right now, you will have big concerns about the team’s defence. During that run of four losses, they conceded 12 goals, which is an average of three a game.

That is insane for one of English football’s best sides. Central defence, in particular, is a worry. Wesley Fofana’s form has been shocking.

Rosenior must now find the right partner for Trevoh Chalobah at the heart of defence until Levi Colwill returns.

Goalkeeper situation

Staying with the backline, the goalkeeper position has become a huge issue for Chelsea. Robert Sanchez made another mistake over the weekend, allowing the ball to go through his legs for Everton’s second goal.

Before that, Filip Jorgensen made a costly error in the first leg of Chelsea’s last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Rosenior has chopped and changed, but that is not going to give either shot-stopper confidence. During this international break, he needs to choose one and stick with them until the end of the season.

Cole Palmer’s form

At the opposite end of the pitch, Cole Palmer’s performances will also be of concern. Against Everton, Palmer failed to influence the game, which has become a common theme for the attacking midfielder under Rosenior.

With Chelsea not having any matches, Rosenior must now use this time to come up with a solution to get the best out of Palmer.

The England international could be the difference between finishing in the top five or not this season. If he is at his best, Chelsea have a great chance of getting the job done.
