The New England Patriots could use some help at pass rusher, and the team is urged to go after a Pro Bowler.
New England lost K’Lavon Chaisson to the Washington Commanders this offseason, and the Patriots haven’t replaced him yet. Although New England is linked to drafting pass rush help at 31st overall, Patriots analyst Matt Legros of PatriotsWire urges the team to sign former first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.
“Clowney recorded 8.5 sacks in 2025 across 13 games played,” Legros wrote in an article published on Monday. “The former No. 1 overall pick from 2014 also registered 12 tackles for loss — his highest total since 2018. Much like Bosa, Clowney still brings much value to the defensive side of the ball. …
“The Patriots have the flexibility to allocate their available cap space on another pass rusher of their ilk in the open market.”
Clowney is projected to sign a one-year, $5.7 million deal, according to Spotrac. The 33-year-old was selected first overall in 2014 and is a three-time NFL Pro Bowler.
Last season with the Dallas Cowboys, Clowney recorded 41 tackles and 8.5 sacks, showing he still has some juice left. At this stage of his career, Clowney would be more of a rotational player, but he would be a solid replacement for Chaisson.
