Puka Nacua, Rams contract timeline receives update from NFL insider after Jsn-Seahawks deal

The NFL shifted its offseason focus to the 2026 NFL Draft, but teams continue to negotiate free-agent deals and contract extensions.

On Monday, the Seattle Seahawks moved quickly, signing Jackson Smith-Njigba to one of the largest contracts in NFL history. That deal immediately drew attention across the league and sparked speculation about who could be next in line for a payday.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua stands out as a prime candidate for a significant raise. However, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reports that the two sides may take time to reach an agreement in Los Angeles.

The Rams will — and should — prioritize Nacua, but a quick deal still seems unlikely.

Nacua still has one year remaining on his current contract, and the Rams retain the option to use the franchise tag next offseason. That flexibility gives both sides time to work through the details of a long-term extension.

Smith-Njigba’s deal also helps establish the market for Nacua. The Seahawks set a new benchmark with a $41.24 million average annual value in that extension.

Could Nacua push closer to $45 million per year? If not, how much higher will the Rams go beyond Seattle’s offer?

This negotiation will be worth watching. Beyond the division-rival comparison, Nacua also holds some leverage.

He could take a page from T.J. Watt’s playbook and execute a “hold-in,” reporting to offseason activities while declining to participate. The Rams would risk looking shortsighted if they fined him for showing up but not taking part.

That approach could increase pressure on the front office to finalize a deal before the regular season. With months to go before September, these negotiations still have plenty of time to evolve.
