Chelsea are eyeing a move to appoint former midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer if they decide to sack Liam Rosenior, according to Sports Boom.
The Blues brought Rosenior in from sister club Strasbourg in January after a backroom fallout with Enzo Maresca saw him walk out, but they have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Arsenal, Champions League in humiliating fashion by PSG, and now sit sixth in the Premier League, on the brink of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Despite only being at Stamford Bridge for a brief period, there are serious question marks around the future of Rosenior following four defeats in six games, and now there are checks ongoing for potential replacements.
Chelsea Eyeing Fabregas Appointment
Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas, who has been described as 'the next elite coach', has been ripping up trees in Serie A with Como since taking over, and currently has the minnows battling to achieve Champions League qualification.
That, and his attacking style of play, has caught the eye of several top clubs across Europe, and Chelsea are now said to be among the latest of his admirers.
The Chelsea board remain committed to their project of youth and potential, and that has seen them take a closer look at the Spaniard, who played in midfield and won the Premier League with the club on two occasions under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Chelsea are also aware of the fact that Como have one of the youngest average ages in Serie A, which would suggest that Fabregas knows how to handle a squad with the talent and lack of experience that is also present at Stamford Bridge.
Como will do everything they can to keep hold of the 38-year-old coach, but it's inevitable that he will eventually move on for a bigger club, and Chelsea's interest could spark a move.
Fabregas Could Be Perfect Chelsea Boss
CESC FABREGAS
Considering the expectations at Chelsea and the young squad at hand, Fabregas could emerge as the perfect candidate to step in and be the next manager.
Rosenior is clearly talented, but he is proving that the stage is too big for him right now, and it would be a real surprise if he managed to see out the next 12 months, never mind the remainder of his contract.
Fabregas' attacking style would appease fans, and his big name and current CV would buy him time too. It could be a match made in heaven.
