Joe Cole has been speaking very highly of his former Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole.
Ashley was recently named manager of Serie B side Cesena and picked up his first win in charge over the weekend.
Cesena beat Catanzaro 3-1 and sit eighth in the table. The ex-Chelsea defender’s next game at the helm is against Sudtirol after the international break.
What position would Chelsea be in NOW if Enzo Maresca was still in charge?
Be honest!
Joe Cole claims Premier League clubs should have targeted former Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole
There have been plenty of managerial changes in the Premier League this season, and Joe thinks his old teammate should have been in contention for more than one of them.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, the retired attacker said: “For a player of his quality and how diligent he’s been in his preparation, every club outside of probably the top 10 in the Premier League should have been banging on the door to get him in, in my opinion.
“That’s not just my opinion, that’s from talking to the England players who worked with him, the under 21 players, and seeing him work.”

Chelsea are one of those sides who have changed managers mid-season. Enzo Maresca left Stamford Bridge in January, leaving the club in need of a replacement.
They swiftly turned to Liam Rosenior, but his appointment has not worked out so far. Under the 41-year-old, Chelsea are currently sixth in the Premier League table and recently lost 3-0 to Everton.
It was the Blues’ fourth consecutive defeat heading into the international break, which is quite concerning.
Rosenior now has to use this time to address a few issues at Chelsea; otherwise, he could find himself out of a job soon.
Since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over, Chelsea have gone for young and upcoming managers such as Rosenior. With that in mind, maybe Ashley will be in contention for the gig one day.
That would see him follow in the footsteps of former teammate Frank Lampard, who has already had two stints in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
For now, the Chelsea board seem to be putting their trust in Rosenior, but things have to pick up soon. Unfortunately for him, it will not get any easier between now and the end of the season, as Chelsea still have to play the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United.
