“I just want to prove that I belong on the next level,” LSU players after LSU 2026 Pro Day

LSU 2026 Pro Day featured 17 former LSU players that went through dill workouts and position workouts in front of NFL scouts and head coaches one month before the NFL Draft.

After showing off their skills, Garrett Nussmeier, Barion Brown and West Week spoke to the media.

For LSU’s former quarterback, Nussmeier participated in some drills, as it’s been about two months since he recovered from the abdominal injury that sidelined him for part of the 2025 season. He explained how the injury happened on the second day of training camp back in the summer.

“Yeah, just routine routes on air. Just felt a stabbing pain in my ab. I’m still not going to get into the specifics. It was just a freak deal and an unfortunate thing.”

He came into LSU Pro Day with a positive mindset as he is eager to be healthy in front of the NFL scouts.

“Just being able to show that I am fully healthy. I do not have to prove anything I just have to be myself,” said Nusssmeier.

The Senior Bowl MVP has caught the attention of several teams in the NFL.

“I had Zooms every single day. I’ve met up with pretty much everybody. It’s been pretty fun, I’ve got some meetings planned in the next couple of weeks. I’ve got some private workouts. Something that I’m excited for. I just want to prove that I belong on the next level.”

Nussmeier stayed five years at LSU. He waited till his senior year to start for the Tigers. He reflected on last year, as things didn’t go as planned.

“Very thankful for the fan base and the way that people have treated me for the last five years. Obviously this last year didn’t go the way we’d hoped, and I am sorry we didn’t reach those expectations. As frustrating as it was for you all, it was as frustrating for me and for the guys in this building. It was a tough year, a lot of adversity, a lot of things I had to go through. Ultimately, looking back on it, it’s unfortunate, but it is going to make me a better player. I love LSU, I’ll always be a Tiger and I am going to do my best to represent LSU at the next level.”

Former LSU WR Barion Brown also reflected on how being invited to the combine and participating in LSU’s Pro Day is far beyond his own expectations.

“This is a dream come true. Since I was a little boy, I always wanted to play football. Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to make it this far. Life-changing for sure. I felt like I gave my best today and gave the scouts what they were looking for.”

During his time at LSU he played both WR and kick returner. Although he is confident he could play in both at the next level, teams are expecting him to get drafted for special teams.

Former LSU linebacker Whit Week reflected on how important it was to have his brother competing with him throughout his LSU career.

“It’s something that I can’t even explain what the feeling is. Those dudes have obviously been there throughout my whole life; they are my best friends. They want to see them succeed, and I want them to see them succeed. So for them to be out there for me today means the world to me.”

All 17 prospects will hope to get drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft that will take place from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
