Stephen Curry remains out for the Golden State Warriors with a knee injury that has sidelined the franchise star since late January and will not play in their upcoming game against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, March 23.

While recent Curry injury updates have signaled that a return could come sometime soon, the 38-year-old remains on the bench for the Warriors.

In the lead-up to Golden State’s game against Dallas, Curry and several other key players remain on the Warriors’ injury report, but based on new updates, the star, as well as other main contributors, could be headed back into head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation sometime soon.

GettyLOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 21: Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors reacts while playing against the Los Angeles Lakers in the first quarter of the game at Crypto.com Arena on October 21, 2025, in Los Angeles, California.

Curry will not play in the Warriors’ game against the Mavericks on Monday night. He was ruled out for that game, as well as the team’s previous contest against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.

Per the latest injury update given by the Warriors PR, Curry is making good progress on his recovery from the ‘runner’s knee’ issue that has kept him out for the team’s last 21 games.

Golden State had reported on March 21 that Curry would intensify on-court workouts and be reincorporated into live team workouts as his next step.

“Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who has missed the last 20 games due to patella-femoral pain syndrome/bone bruising in his right knee, was re-evaluated today,” the team wrote over the weekend. “The re-evaluation indicated that Curry continues to make good progress.”

Stephen Curry & Moses Moody injury updates:

According to team insider Anthony Slater of ESPN, Kerr believed that while Curry was ramping up for a potential injury return, nothing was yet set in stone.

“Tomorrow is probably a big day,” Kerr said about Curry working out with the team. “We’ll know more at that point.”

While that Curry injury update meant good news for the team, it was later revealed by Kerr that the franchise star did not, in fact participate in workouts when he was originally expected to do so.

“Steph Curry wasn’t cleared for the scrimmage in Atlanta on Sunday morning, per Warriors,” Slater wrote on X on March 23. “Just did more court/rehab work with Rick Celebrini. Warriors saying there was no setback. He just wasn’t yet ready to advance to next stage.”

Despite Golden State saying the latest Curry injury update was not a setback, it pushes back any potential return date a bit further out.

When Is Steph Curry Coming Back For The Warriors?

In the lead-up to the Warriors vs Mavericks game on Monday, March 23, Curry remains on the injury report, with no direct timeline for a return.

Slater mentioned Golden State’s next two games, against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday and the Washington Wizards on Friday, but as of now, either game can be pinned for a potential Curry return.

The Warriors then play the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, followed by the San Antonio Spurs the following Wednesday.

Considering the three-day gap between those games, the Spurs’ game could be one to keep an eye on for an injury return for the 38-year-old. Golden State will only have six regular-season games to go after that, and if they want him healthy for the postseason, a ramp-up of a few games would likely be necessary.

Despite the latest injury update seemingly pushing back a Curry injury return, Slater has reported multiple times that both the player and team expect him back on the court in time for their expected Play-In Tournament appearance, which would likely come on April 14.

“Team sources have continued to describe Curry as extremely motivated to return for the stretch run and try to work the wobbling Warriors into the playoffs through the play-in bracket,” Slater wrote back on March 11.

Team sources have continued to describe Steph Curry as motivated to get back in time to attempt to push the Warriors into the playoffs through the play-in bracket, but this is an “unpredictable” knee issue (his description).

Latest update

Curry is averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 46.8% shooting from the field and 39.1% from three this season, and the team has gone 6-15 while he’s been out with this knee injury.

For their game against Dallas, the Warriors’ injury report lists both Steph and Seth Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, and Quinten Post as out.

Moses Moody is questionable, while Kristaps Porzingis and De’Anthony Melton are probable for the Monday night game against the Mavericks, as Golden State hopes to grab just their second win in their last ten games.

The Warriors are currently 33-38 and tenth in the Western Conference standings.
