NBA announces new salary cap projection for 2026-27 season

At $165 million, the projection is $1 million less due to reduced local media revenue.

The NBA has informed teams that the projected salary cap heading to the 2026-27 season would be at $165 million, per ESPN's Shams Charania. This is $1 million less than previous estimates due to reduced local media revenue.

For all teams, the minimum salary ($149M), tax line ($201M), first apron ($209M), and second apron ($222M) are all also $1M lower.

Still, the new cap projection is about $10.6 million higher than this season’s $154.4 million.

The league made the announcement in the wake of this week's Board of Governors meeting, at which NBA expansion, tanking, and season length are expected to be discussed.

LeBron James, Austin Reaves and James Harden are some big names that will be monitored heading to the 2026 free agency.
