Running back Jeremiyah Love not expected to be taken by the Giants with the fifth overall selection.

Armed with the fifth pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the New York Giants have an opportunity to add another promising young talent to the roster. Amid recent developments, it doesn’t appear that they’ll be using this selection to bolster their depth in the backfield.

Heading into the 2026 draft, one of the class’s top prospects is Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. On the March 23rd installment of “The Pat McAfee Show,” NFL insider Adam Schefter was asked when he thinks he’ll come off the board. While he does feel New York would be a good fit for Love, he doesn’t suspect the Giants will target him at this moment in time.

“I don’t see him going to the Giants at No. 5,” Schefter said of Love. “Although that would be an interesting spot, and I think he’d have a lot of support there.”

I don’t see him going to the Titans or the Giants right now..

A place that makes sense to me would be the Washington Commanders” ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive

Love is coming off a dominant junior season at Notre Dame that saw him finish in the top three in Heisman voting. Across 12 games for the Fighting Irish, he rushed for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns.

As of now, the Giants are heading into the 2026 campaign with Cam Skattebo as their lead running back. After showing a lot of promise to start his rookie season, he’ll look to return to form following a devastating ankle injury.

Recent Reporting Suggests Giants Could Select Jeremiyah Love at No. 5

Schefter might feel that Love landing in New York is unlikely, but other talking heads around the league feel differently. In the latest edition of his NFL Mock Draft, Todd McShay of The Ringer has the Giants taking the Notre Dame standout.

McShay also reported that the Giants are believed to be one of the “most likely” teams to select Love.

“LB Tremaine Edmunds could be tempting for the Giants, and I like Caleb Downs here as well,” McShay wrote. “But league intel suggests the Giants are one of the most likely teams to take Love in the top 10.”

Viewed as the top running back in this year’s class, Love would give New York a young two-man attack on the ground between him and Skattebo. It also gives Jaxson Dart another dynamic weapon at his disposal in his first full season as a starting quarterback.

Jeremiyah Love’s Meeting With the Giants Keeps Door Open for Possible Draft Selection

Still a month out from the draft, anything can happen regarding front office’s plans of attack. While Schefter is a widely respected and well-connected insider, the idea of the Giants walking out with Love on draft night should not be completely ruled out.

There are many reasons for this train of thought, but one stands out above the rest. That being that New York has already done their homework on him. Earlier this month, Love had Giants fans buzzing when he posted a picture of himself outside the team’s facility.

The Giants do have to have some luck in this situation, as there’s a chance he could be off the board before they’re even on the clock. That said, if he’s still available, it’s fair to assume he’ll be on New York’s radar to some degree at No. 5.
