The Golden State Warriors overcame the Dallas Mavericks in overtime last night, but it was a horrendous injury suffered at the end of overtime that people are talking about.
The Warriors got the win, beating the Mavericks 137-131 after overtime, but an injury to Moses Moody meant there was no celebrating at the final buzzer.
With just a minute left on the clock, the forward received a pass from Cooper Flagg, and as he went for the dunk, his left knee collapsed beneath him, leaving him in agony.
As the crowd fell quiet, Moody's coaches and teammates, including Steph Curry, were in a state of shock. Sickening footage shows the player's kneecap out of place as concerns about the extent of the injury become reality.
The Dubs have had to deal with their fair share of injuries this season, including that suffered by their talismanic star Curry, who himself hasn't been able to take to the court since January as he continues to deal with his own patella injury.
On top of this, Jimmy Butler also went down in January with a right ACL injury.
Sports Doctor Assesses Moses Moody's Knee Injury
According to Dr. Nirav Pandya, M.D., who is the professor of UCSF orthopedic surgery, the patella position means you have to worry about a patellar tendon rupture, as well as patellar dislocation, or an even larger knee dislocation, meaning multiple ligaments will be affected.
Although test results have not yet been disclosed, it goes without saying that the 23-year-old will miss the rest of 2026, at the very least.
Moody had only recently recovered from a wrist injury that had kept him out for some time, so for him to suffer such a sickening blow is frustrating for the forward.
Many of Moody's teammates have come out to offer their support and sorrow to their friend. However, it was Steph Curry's reaction which caught the attention.
Steph Curry's Distraught Reaction
The 38-year-old was visibly devastated in the crowd, as his stricken teammate was seen to by the medical staff. The four-time NBA champion sunk into his chair with his head in his hands, as if knowing immediately the extent of the injury. Curry has often spoken of Moody's resilience after coming back from so many difficult moments already in his young career.
However, with Moody being only 23 years old, there is hope that he will be given the time to recuperate properly and get to the levels that the fans know he can get to, again.
