As we enter the latter stages of the season, now seems an appropriate time to assess each of the club’s current first year scholars.

Brando Bailey-Joseph

The winger made his debut for the first-team when he came on as a substitute against Kairat Almaty.

During an eventful campaign, the Hale End product has progressed to professional terms and has scored at U21, U19 and U18 levels.

Bailey-Joseph will now be looking to establish himself as a regular for the U21s as he targets further first-team involvement.

Marley Frohock

A hard-working forward, Frohock scored with regularity for the younger age groups but has taken time to adapt to the demands of U18 football.

Frohock found the net for the U18s against Aston Villa and also received his first U19s callup as he was named on the bench away to Slavia Prague.

Callan Hamill

A Scotland U17 international who made his senior debut for his previous club Dundee, Hamill has featured prominently for Arsenal at youth level, often captaining the U18s.

Capable of playing at right-back or centre-back, he was involved in the UEFA Youth League campaign and has made inroads into the U21 squad recently.

Maalik Hashi

The skilful midfielder has been a regular for the U18s and has scored some impressive free-kicks at times.

Hashi, who has already signed his first professional contract, has also featured intermittently at U21 and U19 levels, with the expectation being that he will be involved more prominently for those age groups next campaign.

Josiah King

An England youth international right-back, King has unfortunately been sidelined by injury in recent months but had been making encouraging progress prior to that, which led to him signing professional terms.

King made two appearances for the U19s and has also featured twice for the U21s as well as providing a significant attacking threat at U18 level.

Teshaun Murisa

Another player who has already secured a professional contract, defensive midfielder Murisa has racked up 19 appearances for the U18s and captained the team in recent weeks.

Murisa, who breaks up play well, has also been involved with the U21 and U19 squads at times.

Abraham Owusu-Gyasi

A defender who is strong physically, Owusu-Gyasi can play at right-back or centre-back.

Owusu-Gyasi has become increasingly involved for the U18s of late and has also received playing time at U21 and U19 levels.

Bowen Phillips

Phillips, a creative midfielder who joined from West Ham as a schoolboy, has struggled with injuries at times.

However, when fit he has shown some encouraging signs as a substitute for the U18s and made his FA Youth Cup debut as he featured late on against Mansfield.

Marli Salmon

The most well-known player in this group, Salmon has been on the fringes of the first-team for much of the campaign and has made four senior appearances, which included featuring against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

At U21 level, Salmon has often captained the side in the second half of the season despite usually being the youngest player in the team.

Such is his rate of progress, a loan spell could be a possibility next campaign.

Saurap Sampang

It was a frustrating first half of the season for the Hale End product as he didn’t play at all for the U18s.

However, in recent weeks the midfielder has started to establish himself in the squad, while he also made his debut for the U21s against Liverpool.

Patrick Stachow

A centre-back who reads the game well, Stachow has been capped by Poland at U17 level.

In recent weeks he has become more involved for the U18s and was given the captain’s armband against Fulham last weekend.

Josh Tahou

Hard-working left-back Tahou has played eight times for the U18s, while he was named on the bench for the U19s against Slavia Prague.

Tahou is currently out injured and will have to compete with schoolboy Elyon Mbala for a place in the U18 side when fit.

Jack Talbot

A goalkeeper who progressed all the way through the ranks at Hale End, Talbot has played five times for the U18s this season and has kept two clean sheets.

He is currently out injured but prior to that had been named on the bench for the U21s and U19s.

Remi Lupinski

A late addition to the group last summer when he joined from MK Dons, Lupinski had to wait for regular opportunities but has started the last four games for the U18s.

Lupinski impressed at times, keeping a clean sheet against West Bromwich Albion, but he was sent off against Fulham.
