Arsenal wonderkid breaking Max Dowman records at just 14

Max Dowman could soon be usurped as Arsenal's next big thing.

The 16-year-old has been one of the Gunners' shining lights this season and even earned a slice of Premier League history when he became the competition's youngest-ever goalscorer in a 2-0 win over Everton.

It was the latest feather in the teenage sensation's cap having run the show in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup and earning a penalty on his Premier League debut against Leeds.

Amid Dowman's brilliance this term, it would be remiss of the Gunners to not look beyond what's to come after the 16-year-old.

Lu gotta be kidding me

That's because they have 14-year-old talent Luis Munoz waiting in the wings.

Despite his age, Munoz stepped up and made his debut for the Gunners' Under-18s on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Fulham in the Under-18 Premier League.

The teenage prodigy more than made his mark for Arsenal as he scored in the 90th minute to rescue a point.

It was a dream way to cap off his debut for the team, as Munoz's goal made him the second-youngest goalscorer for Arsenal's U18 side in history.

Despite Dowman's rapid rise, he does not hold the record for Arsenal U18s' youngest-ever goalscorer.

Instead, that honour belongs to Ethan Nwaneri, who opened his account for Arsenal's U18s on his debut in May 2021 at age 14.

However, Munoz still holds an absurd slice of Arsenal history.

Fountain of youth

The prodigious teen became the youngest player to feature in the UEFA Youth League when, aged 13 years and 11 months, he featured in Arsenal's 4-2 win over Bayern Munich last November.

Munoz's rapid rise has not gone unnoticed within the England set-up, either.

The youngster has turned out four times for England's U15s this term, with his last appearance coming in a 3-0 win over Cyprus on February 10.

Munoz even got on the scoresheet in that contest, with his 67th-minute strike kickstarting England's victory.

Despite Munoz's impressive work in Arsenal's youth ranks this term, a first team appearance may be some way off.

Dowman shows the path forward

However, he only has to look to his fellow Hale End peer in Dowman to know that minutes under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta may not be a far-fetched prospect.

Dowman has made seven appearances in total for the Gunners' first team this term, two of which have been starts.

In fact, such has been the brilliance of Dowman this term, Gunners great Perry Groves does not believe a shock World Cup call-up is out of the question for the 16-year-old.

"If I was Thomas Tuchel I would get him training with England next week so he can have a look at him and see what he’s like," Groves said on Inside Gooners.

"Because in a squad of 26 there’s always 2 or 3 players who have no chance of playing, you can have a left-back who’s just there for cover but I’d rather take someone like Max Dowman if I was a manager.

"He can play with that freedom so in tight games he could go turn it around.

"So if he gets more minutes throughout the season, I wouldn’t rule it out that he could be in the England squad and he could be the next Theo Walcott."
