Steelers get update on Aaron Rodgers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make his decision.
Rodgers has hinted at coming back, but nothing has been made official. As his decision continues to wait, his former teammate and close friend, A.J. Hawk, shared he’s been texting Rodgers, telling him to go back to Pittsburgh.

“No joke, I’ve been sending him texts,” Hawk said on The Pat McAfee Show. “Telling him, ‘Hey, Aaron you gotta go back, you need to go play for Pittsburgh, you need to play for Big Mike.’ He’ll either say ‘shut up,’ or nothing.”
Although Rodgers didn’t give Hawk any answers, all signs point to him returning, but no deal has been reached for him to return.
In his first season with the Steelers, Rodgers led Pittsburgh to the AFC North title and showed he still can compete at his age. But, for now, Rodgers still remains a free agent, and if he doesn’t come back, Pittsburgh will likely turn to Will Howard at quarterback.
Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions last season with the Steelers.
McCarthy Hopes to Coach Rodgers Again
If Rodgers does return to the Steelers, he would reunite with his old coach, Mike McCarthy.
The two won a Super Bowl together with the Green Bay Packers, and McCarthy said it would be cool to coach Rodgers again.
“It’d be a great story, McCarthy said of coaching Rodgers in Pittsburgh, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I don’t know [if he’s going to play], and I would love to tell everybody breaking news. But it’s really cool to see Aaron at 42. To see a young man at 22 and all of what he’s been able to accomplish, and where he’s at in his personal life and trying to make the decision. He’s in a really good place.”
However, no decision has been made for Rodgers, but if the two reunite, it would be special, as they had plenty of success in Green Bay together.
Rodgers Opens Up On Steelers Decision
After Rodgers signed a one-year deal last season with the Steelers, many expected it to be his final year.
However, Rodgers played well, and all signs point to him playing another season. Yet, the future Hall of Famer has yet to sign, and he said there is no deadline for his decision.
“There’s been no deadline that’s been put in front of me. There’s no contract offer or anything. So, there’s nothing that I’m having to debate between,” said Rodgers. “I’m a free agent and, again, I’m enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason.”
Rodgers, meanwhile, said he loves McCarthy and would enjoy playing for him again. But, he wanted time to make a decision.
“I love Mike, and Mike and I have kept in contact over the years,” Rodgers explained. “I’ve had conversations with Omar. I think Omar enjoyed having me there. I think the guys had a positive response to our time together. But again, there hasn’t been any deadline set on me, there hasn’t been any contract floated in front of me for me to, like, ‘Well, we’re giving you to March 8 to make a decision on this contract.’ There’s been nothing to that respect. … Interested in what the conversations will be, but there hasn’t been any progression when it comes to that.”
For now, Rodgers’ future is still up in the air.
