Victor Wembanyama gives clear statement on why he should win MVP

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is in the midst of an excellent 2025-26 NBA season in what is his third year in the league.

Wembanyama’s stellar play on both ends of the floor has placed him as one of the candidates to take out this season’s MVP award.

In addition, the Spurs have also cemented themselves as a serious championship threat as they currently sit second in the West with a 54-18 record.

The race to be crowned this year’s Most Valuable Player is a hotly contested one however with the likes of reigning MVP Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, as well as Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic, also very much in the mix.

As far as Wembanyama is concerned, he believes that he would be a deserving recipient of the prestigious honor.

Wemby shares strong MVP argument

Wemby outlined why he feels this is the case after putting up 26 points, while also compiling 15 boards and five blocks, to help San Antonio clinch the Southwest division title with a lopsided victory over the Miami Heat on Monday.

“My first one [argument] would be that defense is 50% of the game and that it is undervalued so far in the MVP race. Because I believe I’m the most impactful player defensively in the league,” the Frenchman said in his postgame press conference.

“Second argument would be that we almost swept OKC in the season and we dominated them three times with their real team and four times with, you know, more rotation players.

“And my third argument would be that offense impact is not just points.”

With a few weeks left in the regular season, the debate surrounding which player should be named league MVP will likely continue until we reach the end of the year.

Even if he doesn’t end up winning the award on this occasion, it probably won’t be long until we do see Wemby lifting up the MVP trophy.
