Report: Liverpool and Newcastle eye shock raid for Chelsea star, £26m could be enough

Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong is set for an interesting summer window with his future under the microscope as Liverpool and Newcastle United eye a potential move.

The 19-year-old has been used rotationally all season, largely as a right-back despite naturally being a centre-back. The England U21 defender has started seven Premier League games for the Blues this term.

But Acheampong has now reached a level where he will need to start playing regular football if he is going to maximise his potential. The defender was linked with leaving Chelsea in the January window.

How much would you SELL Acheampong for? 😤

It would have to be a hefty price…

Josh Acheampong to Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace transfer rumour

Liam Rosenior is a big fan of the teenage defender, but with Chelsea’s enormous competition in defence and the need to make room for more signings, Chelsea have now set their asking price for Acheampong.

Chelsea price tag as Newcastle and Liverpool monitor situation

According to Caught Offside, the suitors are growing for Acheampong. Newcastle and Liverpool are among those suitors, while Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are interested in a possible move.

The report claims Chelsea could be tempted with offers between £22m and £26m for the versatile defender. Of course, Acheampong’s sale represents pure profit for Chelsea and owner Todd Boehly.

Joe Cole has explained his frustration at Chelsea selling academy products like Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher, yet it looks like nothing will change and Acheampong could be the next player to depart.

Who wanted to sign Acheampong in the January window?

There was plenty of interest in Acheampong in the winter window, with Crystal Palace keen to sign the defender having lost Marc Guehi. Man City, despite signing Guehi, were also linked with Acheampong.

Would YOU sanction a loan for Acheampong to Palace on deadline day? 🫵

He's started twice under Rosenior…

Further afield, German champions Bayern Munich are also said to have taken a look at the Chelsea defender and the chance to work under Vincent Kompany might tempt the Chelsea academy product.

Rosenior will want to keep Acheampong at Chelsea and the defender has a contract until the summer of 2029. But even Rosenior might not be at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
