Chelsea take immediate stance on Liam Rosenior future amid concerning run

Chelsea have no plans to sack Liam Rosenior even if they do not qualify for the Champions League this season, talkSPORT understands.

The Chelsea hierarchy are committed to giving Rosenior at least one full season in charge before carrying out any formal performance review.

Rosenior was only appointed in January after Enzo Maresca's acrimonious departure.

The Blues' have lost their last four games in all competitions and are currently in sixth place in the Premier League.

Their 3-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday means Chelsea are six points adrift of the top four with seven matches of the season remaining.

Another loss in their next league outing could see Rosenior's side slip to eighth in the table behind Brentford and the Toffees.

As for their trophy hopes this term, they host Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4.

That tie is followed by their next Premier League fixture at home to Manchester City eight days later.

Under pressure

As well as their domestic woes, Chelsea were thrashed 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League earlier this month.

The two legs of their crushing defeat came either side of a 1-0 home loss against Newcastle United.

That result was followed by a 3-0 reverse in the second leg against PSG at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were even urged to sack Rosenior at half-time by talkSPORT's Rory Jennings during their loss to the French champions.

As well as their results, Rosenior's management style has also come in for criticism during his tenure as Blues manager.

His remarks have bewildered fans at times, including claiming his players were 'respecting the ball' with their recent huddle tactic.

Petit on Rosenior

Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has claimed Rosenior is out of his depth in west London.

Appearing on Monday's talkSPORT Breakfast show, Petit said: "He was doing a great job at Strasbourg and he should have thought about it twice before he accepted the job at Chelsea because the step up is too high for him.

"I think he's a good manager but he’s still young. He has to learn so many things before managing a top club like Chelsea."

Rosenior signed a six-year deal through to the summer of 2032 after succeeding Maresca in the Chelsea dugout.
