SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 13: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts after making a three-point shot against the Golden State Warriors in the second half at Chase Center on March 13, 2026 in San Francisco, California.

Anthony Edwards, the franchise star for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has missed the past week with a knee injury.

While the move to shut Edwards down for a brief stretch before the playoffs was reported to be a cautionary measure, the Timberwolves could now use him back in hopes of landing a top-four seed and home-court advantage for the playoffs.

Though he remains out, the only player on Minnesota’s injury report, the latest Edwards injury update signals that he is ramping up for a return.

In 58 games this season, Edwards is averaging 29.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 49.2% shooting.

GettyNEW YORK, NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 05: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves warms up before the game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on November 05, 2025 in New York City.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards is making progress on a return from his knee injury.

“Anthony Edwards is out on the court at the end of Timberwolves practice,” he wrote in a post on X.

Though Edwards remains out and is not expected to play in Minnesota’s next game against the Houston Rockets, he could very well be back in the near future.

“Chris Finch says Anthony Edwards is still just doing individual work as he rehabs the knee,” Krawczynski wrote in a separate post. “Hasn’t joined practice yet. No timetable yet either, but definitely not tomorrow v Houston.”

Upon announcing the injury, Michael C. Wright of ESPN reported that he would miss one to two weeks.

However, Krawczynski then followed that up by reporting that Edwards is ‘a fast healer,’ and that keeping him out at all was to make sure he’d be ready for another deep postseason run.

“The 1-2 week timeline is intentional.Edwards has been afast healer, so they are leaving open the possibility he returns sooner than later. Butthey’re not going to rush him,”he wrote.

Edwards is officially diagnosed with right knee inflammation, but after already sitting out a week, the new injury update points to the fact that he’s quickly working his way back for a return.

Minnesota Timberwolves This Season

GettyMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – FEBRUARY 11: Julius Randle #30 of the Minnesota Timberwolves celebrates in the fourth quarter against the Portland Trail Blazers at Target Center on February 11, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves defeated the Trail Blazers 133-109.

Amid Edward’s absence, the Timberwolves are 44-28 and fifth in the Western Conference standings. They’ve hovered around the three to six spot for most of the year, but as the only team in the NBA to make back-to-back conference finals appearances, expect to make another deep playoff run this season.

However, Minnesota has gone 5-5 in its last ten, and questions remain across the roster on the supporting cast behind Edwards and Julius Randle, as well as Randle overall as a number two option over the course of multiple playoff rounds.

The Timberwolves were without a true starting point guard for much of the season, but after adding Ayo Dosunmu at the trade deadline, they’ve now got a bit more assurance in that position.

Still, questions about Rudy Gobert and their other young rotational players are evident, as seen in their previous postseason runs.

Getting Edwards back will be key. While he still doesn’t have a direct timeline for a return, there’s been no indication given by the team that, at this point, he’ll be out longer than two weeks.

He remains the Timberwolves’ leading star, and though he’s sitting out at a crucial point in the regular season, having him healthy for the playoffs trumps any other issue for the team right now.
