“Josh Jacobs Has Been Highly Productive”: PFF Writer Believes That the Green Bay Packers Could…

The Green Bay Packers finished with a 9-7-1 record last season and finished as the seventh seed once again in the NFC. Green Bay has a lot of uncertainty entering the 2026 NFL season. The Packers looked like a serious Super Bowl contender until Micah Parsons suffered a season-ending injury.

Green Bay had a big lead at halftime on the road against the Chicago Bears, until they lost the game. There are questions about head coach Matt LaFleur, despite receiving a contract extension this offseason. Running back Josh Jacobs is one of the key parts of this offense and will have two years remaining on his contract. Should the Packers trade him this offseason or hang onto him?

John Kosko of profootballfocus.com wrote one player from each NFL team that could potentially be traded at some point this offseason. Kosko thinks that the Packers could potentially trade Jacobs this offseason. He said,

“The Packers entered the 2025 season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders, especially following the addition of edge defender Micah Parsons. Quarterback Jordan Love has also been one of the league’s top performers, ranking fifth in PFF overall grade among quarterbacks since becoming a starter in 2023.

However, Green Bay’s offensive approach has, at times, leaned too heavily on the run game. Despite having an elite quarterback, the Packers ranked 12th in early-down run rate in 2025, often prioritizing the ground attack over more efficient passing opportunities.

Josh Jacobs has been highly productive, earning a 91.8 PFF rushing grade since joining the team, which ranks fourth among running backs. Still just 28 years old, he could command significant draft capital if the Packers choose to shift toward a more pass-centric approach.”

Even if they were to go to a pass first offense, they still need Jacobs in the backfield. They don’t have depth at the running back position at all. Green Bay lost Emanuel Wilson in free agency to the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers need Jacobs in the worst way. They need to just limit his carries moving forward or find a better second running back to compliment the Packers offense.

Last season with Green Bay, he rushed for 929 yards on 234 carries and 13 touchdowns, along with averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Jacobs also caught 36 passes for 282 yards receiving and one touchdown, along with averaging 7.8 yards per reception. He is 28 years old and no doubt have juice left in the tank. If Green Bay misses the playoffs this year, then maybe these conversations about Jacobs being traded should be revisited in a year from now. It would be silly for him to be on the move now.
