Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has enlisted one of the most prominent divorce attorneys in the country as his legal dispute with ex-fiancée Anamaria Goltes intensifies.

According to a report from the New York Post, Dončić recently hired high-profile attorney Laura Wasser — widely known as the “Disso Queen” — to represent him in the case.

Wasser has built a reputation handling celebrity separations and custody battles, with past clients including Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Garner.

Legal Dispute Centers on Jurisdiction

Goltes filed a petition for child support earlier this month in California, but Dončić’s legal team has moved to have the case dismissed.

Per the New York Post, Wasser argued in court filings that California is not the appropriate jurisdiction, noting that neither Dončić, Goltes nor their children are residents of the state.

The filing also states that Dončić initiated a family law action in Slovenia in February, addressing both custody and support matters.

Wasser further alleged the California filing was an attempt to “forum shop,” referencing the state’s reputation for higher child support awards.

Dončić Details His Position

In a declaration cited by the New York Post, Dončić said he has consistently covered all of his children’s expenses in Slovenia.

“I have offered to pay for them to come to California during basketball season and would love for them to be here at any expense,” Dončić said. “Anamaria has declined.”

He added that he “happily” pays for their needs while pursuing legal resolution in Slovenia.

Additional Details Emerge From Second Report

Additional reporting from the Daily Mail indicates Dončić has also challenged the California filing as procedurally improper, maintaining that the matter should be handled in Slovenia, where the children currently reside.

The report also noted that Dončić had previously filed legal action in Slovenia before Goltes submitted her petition in California, setting up a cross-border dispute.

Off-Court Drama, On-Court Dominance

While the legal situation continues to unfold, Dončić has responded with arguably the best stretch of basketball of his Lakers tenure.

Since news of the custody battle surfaced, the Slovenian star has averaged 39.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.0 assists over his last eight games, carrying a heavy offensive load while maintaining elite efficiency.

The surge has not gone unnoticed.

Dončić was named back-to-back NBA Western Conference Player of the Week during that span, further solidifying his impact as one of the league’s most dominant performers down the stretch.

His ability to produce at such a high level amid significant off-court developments highlights both his importance to the Lakers and his capacity to handle pressure in high-stakes moments.

High-Profile Legal Move Signals Escalation

Bringing in Wasser signals a significant escalation in the case.

Often referred to as a go-to attorney for celebrity divorces, her involvement suggests Dončić is preparing for a prolonged and complex legal battle.

A hearing on the motion to dismiss is scheduled for May, which could determine where the case will ultimately be adjudicated.

Dončić and Goltes began dating as teenagers and share two daughters, Gabriela and Olivia.

Speculation about their split intensified earlier this month whenTMZ Sports broke the news before Dončić confirmed the breakup in a statement to ESPN.

“I love my daughters more than anything,” Dončić said. “Everything I do is for their happiness.”

Off-Court Focus Amid Playoff Push

While the legal battle plays out, Dončić remains a central figure for the Lakers during a tightly contested Western Conference race.

The timing adds another layer to an already demanding stretch of the season, as the Slovenian balances his role as the team’s primary offensive engine with an evolving international custody dispute.

For now, both situations continue to develop in parallel — one on the court, and one far beyond it.

Dončić appears to be handling both well.
